Welcome to the website of the Independent Volunteer Rifles, Inc.® (IVR). The IVR is an umbrella battalion organization encompassing the 15th Virginia Infantry Co. A, Inc., the 23rd Virginia Infantry Co.'s A-K, Inc.®, The Petersburg City Guard, The Doggery Boys Mess, and The Princess Anne Greys (Lee's Sharpshooters). Members of the IVR are dedicated to the authentic portrayal of the average Confederate Citizen Soldier in all respects, to include drill, camp life, and material culture and attitude in so far as available information and funds allow. The IVR was founded 1996 and incorporated in 1999. Members of our six units come primarily from the mid-Atlantic States. The types of events in which we participate are diverse and include battle reenactments, tactical campaigner events, National Park Service Living History programs, educational programs at historic sites and schools, and preservation fund raisers.
